St. Andrea Merengő Egri Bikavér Superior (2022).

St. Andrea Szőlőbirtok és Pincészet is one of Hungary’s most acclaimed wineries, located in the Eger wine region near Egerszalók.

The Eger region is famous for the red blend Egri Bikavér (“Bull’s Blood”), which is produced according to strict appellation rules. The Superior classification requires at least four grape varieties, a more selective harvest and longer barrel aging, which enhances the wine’s quality and complexity.

"Merengő" in Hungarian means “contemplative” or “dreamy.”

Blend contains contains Cabernet Franc (26%), Kékfrankos (38%), Merlot (18%), Pinot Noir (11%), and Syrah (7%).

Color: dark red.

On the nose: initially muted and slightly closed, it later opens up with notes of dark fruits such as plum, ripe cherry and cassis. Also notes of spices appears, including cloves with hints of dark chocolate.

On the palate: the wine is fruity, medium+ bodied with high acidity and a distinct tannic structure. The finish is long, dominated by cassis and spices.
