  1. You're definately not crazy, just one of the few brave enough to do something so cool and so important. I totally feel you about the chateau lacking the intimacy one craves as a family, but perfect as a hotel!

  2. You need to call Gemma Wheeler. The architect who designs old ruins into beautiful modern homes. But I'm sure you've figured it all.out for your family on your own. It will be very exciting.

  3. Your plans are amazing. I can't wait to see how it comes along. At this point, building things has to be in your blood as you take on ever more difficult projects. Thank you for preserving this wonderful house. It's great that you got permission for change – in Germany, it is very difficult to get that with these old buildings. ❤

  4. NO YOU ARE NOT CRAZY – It’s not as difficult as it feels this side of the mountain. Once you start the climb it goes quickly – your home is going to look amazing – Enjoy Every Moment Making It ❤️✖️

  5. I’m so excited to see this renovation where old meets new. I love seeing the process and the design aspects. Please try put out more videos each week so we can come along in real time with this journey. More Vlogs hopefully would help fund the renovations 😉 Well done guys!

  6. That cement you are planning on using for the new extension is really depressing. It might be an hommage to a local architect, but it's usually only used in a "cost saving" way because it's so sturdy, so the vibe is pretty ick.. 😕 A shame to do that to such an old beautiful building..

  7. You guys have vision and innitiative. Very different from crazy. The traditional materials will give you an excellent room climate and the view and southern exposure will make it a home conducive to mental wellbeing! It is a massive project and I bet it will take you at least 18 months, but you have the experience to do it.

  8. I am looking forward to your building and decorating your new home. The original building looks so interesting. This is an exciting time for you and all of us. Thank you for sharing your ideas with us and giving us some history on this old building.

  9. I suggest, that you first close all the small holes in your walls, bats 🦇 and birds like to stay in these kind of old houses. And many bats are endangered species.

  10. I think the long house is going to be beautiful. I’m glad that you want to restore something old and not tear it down. Can’t wait for all the upcoming videos while doing this.❤

  11. I would advise drawings to check proportions above all. With higher walls – the proportions change vis a vis the roof and the length of the building overall. The proportions at the moment are perfect – check that your plans recreate that perfect balance. Exciting !

  12. Looking forward to following your progress. I’m sure your new home will be beautiful as is your Chateau. What an opportunity for your family and a life changing adventure! 🥀

  13. I imagine this might be more cozy and homie than living in a chateau. I am really curious about the experience of living in a chateau and using it as a home.

I live in a house with many levels but with a small footprint – And have been surprised by how much walking up and down stairs impact my life. Everybody can be at home and I still often feel very far away from everyone.

Hope to hear about what has worked and haven't worked living in that amazing building! And maybe a bit about if/how that has informed your decisions for the new/old home 🙂

Looking forward to following this journey!

  14. You definitely live in this size building without raising the roof for a second floor, but you would simply live in smaller rooms. It is a choice. Not a need.

  15. I personally don’t like open plan living. But I believe your long house definitely lends itself to this way of living. It’s going to be beautiful when finished. And I’m sure it will be a quite exciting project ❤❤

  16. The plans for this building look amazing. Looking forward to the treasures you find inside. Has your land ever been metal detected?

  17. I can't wait to see what you do to your long house. Since it's south facing, you could do passive solar and have windows facing all along that side to help with heating in the cold weather. I'm sure it will be beautiful whatever you do.

  18. It sounds and looks like an amazing project but to be very, very honest, judging (as a conservator for historic buildings) only from the condition of the wood beams etc. what I saw in the video, most of it seems to be far beyond saving. I really hope this prediction will not come true but I'm quite certain that you will have to replace most if not all of the wooden framework in order to create a safe, sound structure, basically having to rebuild the whole building from the foundation upwards. Fingers crossed anway! 💚

  19. This is brilliant and I very much look forward to following along as you breathe new life into this historic building – tied together with an authentic thatched roof. Your excitement about this project is infectious and your thoughtful design will undoubtedly offer your family (and special guests) a functional and beautiful space to gather and grow. Wishing you all the best in this ambitious endeavor, and many thanks for bringing us along. 💗

  20. Livable in 12 months??? Oh my, I wouldn't think so! Love the idea though and can't wait to watch the process.

  21. I think you're gonna find some real interesting 'treasures' when you uncover and discover in your remodeling/renovating long house.

Bravi💯👍👍👍🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

  23. I'm excited to see the renovations on the longhouse. It looks like you will face some significant challenges, but Benoit will help Philip through them. This makes me wonder what Benoit thinks about your venture. However, I suspect it will take longer than 12 months.

  24. I’m so happy and excited that you will be saving this building. I first saw your chateau when we stayed in a thatched cottage in the Marais Vernier, about thirty years ago. (Those ugly fences!). To keep the traditional architecture alive and thriving is really the best thing in the world – and your additions will truly link the past to the present. X

  25. OMG ! Vous êtes très courageux……très bien pourvus financièrement et un peu fous 😅. But it's gonna be huge ! Ce bâtiment est une splendeur avec énormément de potentiel certes mais ça prendra tellement de travaux pour lui donner une nouvelle vocation. Je vous suivrez car cela s'annonce une aventure formidable. Bon courage monsieur, madame.😊

  26. Respectfully, you are crazy. Obviously you have thought of the enormous cost of this project and you have the financial means to carry it off. Wish you well with the project and look forward to following it on your channel. Take care and be safe. Dale USA
