I was going for a moody, dark academia kind of vibe and ended up with Cookie Monster blue…. I swatched it and some other colors and was a bit apprehensive about going darker since we’re in an apartment. And it looked good, like it’d bring out the blue in the rug.. But I hate this.. it’s so bright it looks whimsical and childish almost.
We’re still shopping for all large furnishings, ie couch, coffee table, media console, etc. Any suggestions on how we can make this better? I really do NOT want to repaint.

No, sorry, the only way is to repaint. Terrible color for this space.
I think maybe if the trim wasn’t color washed it could neutralize it somewhat
Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy is a really nice moody dark blue with a tint of grey.
I disagree and really like the color, especially in the first pic. Maybe the picture is misrepresenting the color or it’s my phone?
I love the color. different trim color (white or cream) could soften the transition. the cabinets clash but changing the pulls to a black or copper could potentially soften it.
Theres lots of potential here! Add mirrors to brighten up and “enlarge” the space. I would add faux yellow and/or pink flowers or green plants in white pots too. Some large art work would help. Satin brass access maybe too? Get a good table lamp or floor lamp.
It’s a beautiful color bring more lighter tones into the room. And also colors read different different times of the day. What does it feel like during the day
It doesn’t work with the floors, which are very orange. I like it otherwise with the cabinets and curtains
I suggest you change to darker shears on the French doors, so they don’t catch the eye.
I once painted a room this similar color. I should have just repainted sooner, I couldn’t make it work.
The pack of natural light is the challenge. What happens when you open the curtains on that window?
Given the rug, floor and the cabinets, I do think its the wrong color and the wrong blue. It will just annoy you to no end every day so I’d repaint. Yes, work now but save yourself every day aggravation for years to come. I have something in my kitchen I regret and it bothers me every single day and I can’t wait to fix it.
