Renovating a flat that has a long entryway, approx 5 metres by a metre wide. Not a fan of the brown carpet but I'd like to keep them on the stairs for the time being.
I was thinking about a patterned/checkered floor, but I'm not sure if it would look too busy.
The panelling with a window is for privacy, and the pipe/cables that run along it. Open to removing it, but would prefer to decorate instead.
I could add a narrow piece of furniture but that may restrict the space too much for a bike.
Torn between something bright and playful or something Victorian-esque, hence the checkered floor.
I'm having trouble finding examples of similar entryways online. Any ideas and suggestions are welcome, thanks.

The checkered floor is the move. A graphic floor draws the eye down a narrow hallway and makes it feel intentional rather than just narrow. Classic black and white (even peel-and-stick first to test) would lean right into Victorian.
Wainscoting below chair rail height with a lighter paint above would pull the whole look together and handle the privacy panel situation naturally. Slim peg rail keeps the bike lane clear.
Vintage mirrors and rechargeable sconces could help to brighten up the hallway and the stairway.
