Château du Moulin-à-Vent in Romanèche Thorins
Organic conversion, precise work on the vinification, mainly working destemmed (burgundy style) and aging in oak barrels (228L and 300L).
They are offering a lot of plot-selections wines like La Rochelle, Champ de Cour or Clos de Londres. Elegant and delicate wines with intensity and complexity. In the first years, wines are offering a fruit-forward profile with pepper notes and spices depending of the soil.
30 hectares (70 acres), composed of 91 plots

Really cool to see them doing the Burgundy-style approach in Moulin-à-Vent – destemming and oak aging makes such difference for these wines. I tried La Rochelle few years back and was surprised how much structure it had compared to typical Beaujolais, way more complexity than I expected. The pepper notes you mention are so characteristic of this cru, especially when they’re working with different plots like that. 91 plots on 30 hectares is pretty intense level of detail for winemaking. Did you get to taste multiple vintages during visit or just current releases?
I don’t want to yuck your yum, but this is one of the few Beaujolais houses I absolutely cannot stand. They apply way too much toasty oak. Drinking one of their wines is like drinking an ash tray.
