2003 was a heatwave year, and it shows in the glass. * Color: Deep, mahogany brown looks more like an Brandy than a white wine. * Nose: Pronounced and intense. Tons of botrytis influence. Unlike the usual orange marmalade notes, this is leaning heavy into honey, dried figs, and ripe plum. There is also a very unique, high toned floral note I’ve never experienced before. * Palate: Extremely sweet and full bodied. It’s weighty, though it doesn’t feel quite as “thick” or oily as a top tier Sauternes. More roasted nuts and a hint of coffee and chocolate. * Structure: Alcohol is so low it’s basically invisible (10%). Acidity is Med+ make the residual sugar feels very pronounced * Long finish that lingers with that nutty, honeyed character. Overall: Great quality and a very cool look at a rare grape Ehrenfelser (Riesling x Knipperlé). It’s a bit of a sugar bomb, and I personally find myself wishing for just a touch more acidity . but a very cool experience nonetheless.
