Trying gumbo in New Orleans doesn’t have to break the bank — but is the cheap bowl just as good as the fancy one?
In this video, we compare a $6 gumbo from Broad & Banks with a $25 gumbo from Restaurant R’evolution in the French Quarter to see which one is actually worth it.
We break down:
– Flavor and seasoning
– Roux depth and texture
– Seafood vs. sausage quality
– Portion size
– Overall value for the price
If you’re planning a trip to New Orleans or just love Louisiana food, this taste test will help you decide whether to go budget gumbo or fine‑dining gumbo on your next visit.
📍 Featured Locations:
– Broad & Banks (affordable neighborhood gumbo)
– Restaurant R’evolution (upscale French Quarter dining)

Makin my Easter Okra gumbo right now. I like mine the best!!!
I call into question whether that second one is actually a gumbo. They can call it that but it doesn't appear to be a gumbo. It's a soup, yes, but that's about as far as I'd go.
I have one for you The pie man on Franklin avenue close to the Gretna bingo Palace it's all to go orders but they do make a delicious downtown gumbo. But I haven't had it in a while so I don't know if it's changed but at one time it was delicious
Is that restaurant as loud as it sounds?
Enjoyed your video! How is the rest of the food at Broad and Banks? Saw fried chicken and a menu with lots of Po-Poys.
Looks like another scam. Huge plate but no food
There's so much difference in the two dishes that it doesn't even seem fair to make a comparison. The fancy one didn't appear to have any shrimp, either, unless that's part of the puree. But they both look incredibly delicious and I would be happy to eat them both on my next trip.
Excellent video. Thank you two for sharing!
