Technically you pay extra for the little metal box at hermes, that's why they are a bit more exspencive. Ladurée also has fancier boxes to withstand damage for a bit if extra money.
You deduct half a point because "He didn't speak the best English"! You were in Paris. You should have been speaking French ….
