I begin at the spectacular Pont du Gard, a remarkably preserved Roman aqueduct. Construction of the aqueduct began around 19 BC during the time of the Roman general Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa. The bridge itself was completed around 40–60 AD. This UNESCO World Heritage Site once carried water over 50 km to the Roman city of Nîmes. Standing nearly 50 meters high with three tiers of arches, it is one of the greatest masterpieces of ancient Roman engineering and architecture. Visitors can walk across the bridge, explore the museum, and enjoy panoramic views of the beautiful Gardon River valley.

Next, I travel to the legendary wine village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône Valley. Known worldwide for its prestigious wines, this historic village was once the summer residence of the popes during the 14th century when the papacy moved to nearby Avignon. Although much of the castle was destroyed during later conflicts and the French Revolution, its ruins remain one of the most iconic landmarks in the region, and overlook endless vineyards and offer breathtaking views across the Rhône Valley.

Châteauneuf du Pape wines are prestigious French wines from the southern Rhône Valley. They are mostly full-bodied red wines made primarily from Grenache, often blended with grapes like Syrah and Mourvèdre.
These wines are known for rich flavors of dark fruit, spice, herbs, and earthy notes, influenced by the region’s famous large round stones (galets) that retain heat and help ripen the grapes. They are typically powerful, complex, and age-worthy wines.

Why Visit Pont du Gard and Châteauneuf-du-Pape?
Whether you love history, architecture, wine tourism, or scenic travel in southern France, Pont du Gard and Châteauneuf-du-Pape are unforgettable destinations filled with culture, history, and breathtaking landscapes.
