Moving to France? Your quality of life depends on one thing: what’s in your cupboard on a rainy Tuesday. In this guide, we have a look at some of the best regions to live in France based entirely on their local cuisine.

Choosing where to live in France is more than a map; it’s a diet and a personality reveal. Whether you’re a “Butter Crusader” in Brittany or a “Cheese Ritualist” in the Alps, this video breaks down iconic French regions and their signature dishes to help you decide where you truly belong. We’re skipping the “linen pantaloon” medals and getting straight to the ingredients, consequences, and comfort levels of French regional living.

  2. Having holidayed many a time in France I can safely say: French food is crap. I had a half decent meal in Monpazier, and another somewhere in the Camargue, but many more dreadful ones, full of fat and excess.

  3. I'm proud to say that I've tried all of those foods. All were delicious.
Thanks Johnny for making me feel sad for living in Germany. 😆

  5. Fun episode with a lot of really helpful food suggestions. Oysters can (and do) have attitudes. Have we done a wine/beverages tour yet? PS: Love the kitties.

  6. I moved to France 10 years ago after getting an IT security job with an International Company that bought several companies in the EU. I traveled extensively for my job for 4 years until I retired in 2019. I've eaten in many many restaurants throughout France. In those 10 years I've had only 3 bad meals. French cuisine is incredible everywhere.

  7. "No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people.  Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby." — H.L. Mencken in the 1920's.

Most American tourists will look for fastfoods they are used to.

  8. Thank you 🙏 Johnny B. for this great video! My mother was from Auvergne France, someplace you don’t hear much about. St. Bonnet le Chastel in the Puy de Dôme Département. I remember eating Truffade at family gatherings, just potatoes and cheese SO good. I just hope we get another chance to come to France and try some of the amazing dishes that you described here. Merci 🇫🇷💙🤍❤️!

  9. Johnny, regarding food, you are even better than in real estates. I gained 1,5kg weight just from watching this video. Fortunately, I (German) can be in Alsace in 30 minutes. Tomorow, I will have a yummy Choucrute Garnié. (And another 1,5kg).

  10. Love it, had tried almost all the foods shown here. Feels like we missed a region, how about the Carbonnade Flamande from northeast corner? Especially during the winter months, with beer, of course.

  11. Gosh. I can't decide whther or not to watch your new video right now–a mid morning emotional boost–or should I wait until the end of the day when I need a smile and a new point of view.

  12. it would be stupid to eat always the same food, from only 1 region !
even if it's good, you would get bored to be so narrow-minded !
you must try all regional french cuisines, of course !

if you live in France, you've time to try everything.
open your mind, and your mouth…
(and don't forget french overseas cuisines).

  13. Considering that France prides itself on Gastronomy, I'm continually amazed, when looking at French houses for sale, how little attention is paid to the layout of their kitchens. Not enough workspace to put hot plates/dishes on after cooking, sinks in the wrong place, and worst of all, a bathroom/toilet directly off the kitchen Uurgh!!

  14. We have yet to have a bad food experience in France. We have always said, if it looks like something you want, try it – it’ll be wonderful! The French know food!😋🤗

  15. I think I should take a sabbatical year to visit all the regions named and taste every single dish presented. I have only one criterion: Côtes du Rhône wine to accompany the food.

  16. ".. pastries which behave as if they have CV", "… salad which refuses to behave as one", etc. Wonderful bursts of imagination!

  17. I also love Jaques 'just a little more butter' Pepin so I guess it would be Brittany for me. I lived in a market town in Azerbaijan, and the butter wheel was presided over by a smiling man with a length of wire. His delight was in garroting off the exact amount of butter that I ordered. Thank you for the boost.

  18. 15 seconds in + I'm dying 😂😅 I will never master miserable croissant eating! 🥐😋

  19. In fact anywhere you go in France you'll find something different to eat and drink of course to me there is only a small region were cooking traditions are poor but I won't say it here because people who live there don't deserve to be moked for that.

  20. Just a little bit of tongue-in-cheek comedy by Trevor Noah, "Why the French don't care about work".

  21. The amount of work that has gone into creating this video is impressive! Thanks for sharing! I was waiting for Burgundy 🙂

  22. So:

    Winters in Marseille
Spring and autumn visits to Lyon on the way to and from
Summer visits to Wales, while my solar panels sell electrons to EDF in my absence.
Not so much nomad, rather, raving mad with elongated non.

  23. My son and I are going to Normandy and then Le Mans in June and July.
I'd better start dieting now ……😮😊
