Please give me suggestions for this nook in our new home it’s a midmod home built in the 70s the air handler is inconveniently located at the base of it. We are for sure removing the wallpaper. We are considering maybe and inlaid book shelf but open to options!

I think the wallpaper looks nice. I would definitely keep it or replace it with some other wall paper or peel and stick tile. Where is the nook located? First thought is a floating desk with shelves above. I’ll make you a mock up later!
I think built in shelves would be nice, though you’d have to be sure that you’re keeping the vent clear.
You could also look into finding a nicer grille that’s a little more decorative. A couple years ago, I had to replace a custom sized HVAC grille and had good luck with a company called Pacific Register. Not cheap, but I was very pleased with the quality.
