Welcome to the pure, unadulterated glamour of Mörbylånga. This is not just a village; it is a state of mind located on the stunning island of Öland in the southeast of Sweden. In this episode of my summer vlog series, we are descending upon my parents’ house for a dose of salt air and family eccentricity. The highlight? A barbecue hosted by my cousin Cina that quickly devolved into a linguistic catastrophe. We have officially renamed Pinot Noir. It is now “Peanut Noyer.” Say it with me. It is rhythm, it is style, it is completely wrong, and I adore it.
Swedish summers are short, sharp, and brilliantly bright. There is a specific kind of magic in the way the light hits the Baltic Sea at 10 PM. Mörbylånga provides the perfect backdrop with its narrow streets and roses spilling over stone walls. We are embracing the “Peanut Noyer” lifestyle—plenty of laughter, excellent grilled food, and the kind of fun that only happens when you stop trying to be serious. This is the island life you didn’t know you needed to see.
Öland is connected to the mainland by the Ölandsbron, which was once the longest bridge in Europe. The island is known as the “Land of Windmills,” though today they stand as silent, chic sentinels of the past. The southern landscape, the Stora Alvaret, is a vast limestone plain that feels like walking on the moon, if the moon had rare orchids and wandering sheep. Mörbylånga itself has a history rooted in the soil, transitioning from a heavy industrial village to a haven for those seeking the authentic Swedish coast.
In this video, you’ll see the reality of an influencer off-duty. No filters on the family jokes, just pure island energy. We are grilling, we are sipping “Peanut Noyer,” and we are soaking up every second of this brief island visit. It is the texture of life that matters—the sound of the wind, the sizzle of the fire, and the ridiculousness of a mispronounced grape. It is total theatre! 🎭
If you enjoyed this trip to Öland, make sure to subscribe and join the family for more adventures. I want to know—what is the most ridiculous way you have ever mispronounced something fancy? Leave a comment below!
The island of Öland is also the summer residence of the Swedish Royal Family, who stay at Solliden Palace. While we weren’t invited for tea, I find Cina’s barbecue much more avant-garde. The island’s flora is so distinct that Linnaeus himself spent significant time here cataloging the greenery. It is a botanist’s dream and a vlogger’s paradise. This episode captures that spirit of discovery, mixed with the comfort of home.
The windmill count on the island used to be in the thousands; now, about 400 remain, dotting the horizon like exquisite accessories. Every corner of Mörbylånga whispers stories of the Baltic trade. When you visit, you feel the weight of history and the lightness of the summer breeze. It is a juxtaposition that is nothing short of divine. Join me as we toast to the sun, the sea, and the legendary “Peanut Noyer.” It is the only way to travel.
