We challenged chefs of three different skill levels–amateur Onika, home cook Lorenzo, and professional chef Fatima Khawaja–to make their take on a lobster dinner. We then asked expert food scientist Rose to explain each chef’s choices along the way. Which lobster dinner do you want to tuck into first?

  1. If she was gonna cut it down the middle anyway why didn’t she just euthanize it before boiling like Lorenzo…….

  2. Sorry not watching this one, hated that the “professional” chef just boiled the lobster alive

  3. Worth noting, Frank was originally supposed to be in the video, but he get lose on a Maine lobster fishing boat and could not met the deadline.

  4. No offense Onika but I'm sure a lot of people can tell the difference between canned corn and fresh corn. Maybe not all but I feel like a lot could.

  5. Gotta go with Lorenzo on this one. Steamed is better than boiled. I get that she made a broth but nah, its nicer texture when steamed

  6. Omg. The people crying about boiling the lobster alive. I can't even. 😂😂😂 Head first into the boiling water. Easy peasy.

  7. The weird thing about lvl 2 and lvl 3 is that Lorenzo splits the lobster then boils it while lvl 3 boils the lobster then splits it.

Wouldn’t it be easier to split the lobster when it isn’t boiling hot lol?

  8. I prefer Lorenzo’s plate over the “professional” chef. Lobster has a delicate taste and to cover it up by mixing it into a white sauce is nuts. Sometimes simpler is better.

  9. There should be a level 5 chef, a cafeteria lady who's capable of making a Lobster Thermidor aux crevettes with a Mornay sauce, garnished with truffle pâté, brandy and a fried egg on top, and Spam.

  10. What kind of fake accents is that pro chef even using? She keeps saying the same words differently making her seem even more fake. Is she even a pro chef? something's fishy here… and it isn't the lobster.

  11. You'll catch me at Onika's house begging for an invite to dinner. That woman puts some LOVE on it, an ingredient you can't replicate.

  12. I admit I'd have preferred Frank for his amazing chemistry with Lorenzo.
Fatima boiling her lobster alive without at the very least stunning it baffled me, that's a practise that has already been banned in a couple of countries.

  13. This video breaks my brain on all fronts.

Soak the lobster in ice water that is about as salty as the ocean.

Then steam it until it's red(ish) or red… If the antennas pull off with little resistance, this means it's done.

While the lobster is steaming (about 8-10 minutes)… melt 10 tablespoons of butter and about one to tablespoons of white vinegar. Mix it up.

Watch a video on how to properly break down the lobster, dip, and eat… including the Tomalley. Ain't my favorite but sometimes I dig it.
