5 Ice Cream Gadgets Tested By Design Expert | Well Equipped | Epicurious

  1. For the plunger one, It seemed like the Ice cream was fresh out of the freezer. When he did the comparative test with the regular scoop, the ice cream had been out a while and had the hole from the plunger scoop. Not an accurate test. And TBH, I microwave most ice cream for 5-10 secs, no matter what utensil I'm using, if it's been in the freezer for and hour or more.

  2. I grew up with that last one. It's indestructible, but uncomfortable to use. And the edge doesn't cut into the ice cream very well. We've since replaced it with a traditional metal one that works way better.

  3. The first gadget – I think Dan's using it wrong? It locks up into position to allow the User to then press down the whole thing into the Ice Cream, with a larger cavity inside the base for the Ice Cream to go in. Then the button is used to unlock the push-out process. It's really not obvious. Agree with some others in the comment – the metal shaft would benefit from dipping in some hot water first too 🙂

  4. I lost all respect for your opinions when you said mint chocolate chip is your favorite ice cream.

  5. the ice cream thing probably would of worked better if he wasnt pushing down from the part that pushes out the ice cream…. cant be the only one that noticed that…

  6. I’d buy the Thumb Push Scoop but would be worried about how sanitary it would be to press something with our thumbs and then go back in for more. If it’s just one person eating the ice cream but if it’s a family then it could get pretty “germy “

  7. I’ve been binge watching all his videos and I don’t understand why he can’t help but make a mess. It can’t just be the gadgets, all the time. And I don’t know why, when using his left hand, he doesn’t turn the gadgets to opposite side.

  8. I like these so much better than the usual reviews because he offers suggestions for improvement. I find I am surprised sometimes with where he takes the design to fix certain issues.

  9. Does this guy realize Core Samples are done by drilling? He purposely omits drilling actions in the first tool.

  10. I am thinking of something else when I see that pink ice-cream scoop. In particular the handle of it… Could be used differently..

  11. As a side note, to prevent ice build up and freezer burn on ice cream, you actually want to drag the scoop across to surface, rather than digging it in. By keeping the passes shallow and the surface of the ice cream as flat as possible, you limit to areas where crystals can form. It also limits air exchange between the ice cream and the freezer, so it doesn't alter the flavor as fast. Most ice cream scoops are designed to scoop this way. You'll struggle less and make nicer scoops.

  12. 1:18 I know the device isn't great, but the way he uses it here is so demonstrably wrong – He is pressing the top that should have been free when pressed so the ice cream can go in the device.

  13. Are we gonna ignore how the star shaped ice cream sandwich gadget won the speed test with 48 secs vs by hand with 1 min 14 secs but the editing says otherwise at 5:36 of the video….???!

  14. He seems to forget that the traditional scoop tries to melt some of the ice cream as it cuts through it.
