The owner of French Gourmet, a popular Pacific Beach restaurant, has made a public plea for support after his decision to sell the property led to a significant drop in business.
As a local, it will be sad to see the tower built. But I digress, the area is unabashedly Left leaning. They voted for this. They fully support ADU's and all of the massive appartment complexes going up in kearney mesa, Claremont. Their Party is passing SB79 which allows just this very thing to happen. I could go on and on….
Michel is a nice guy. He's a talented Chef. I've had the pleasure of working with him on occasion. He's a good boss, respects his people and it'll be unfortunate to those who work for him if people think boycotting his business and hurting these people is the right move. Obviously he's someone who cares about this community he's been there almost 40 years. He cares about his people and his industry. Not one person I know who's ever sold their house worried about what the buyer plans on doing. The goal literally is to get the best offer for their property. Your fight is with your city councils who allow overdevelopment in their cities and overcrowding of historical or once quaint communities. La Mesa is facing the same problems.
I find it comical that the same people that are upset about a 23 story tower, are most likely the same people that voted for this desecration of our city. If you voted for Todd Gloria, or any of the other socialists on the SD city council, this is what you get. Those towers are everywhere, especially in North Park, and are ruining the neighborhoods, turning them into massive rental areas with no parking. The SD city council are the ones that support and approve of this type of development. If you voted for them, this is what you voted for. Don't complain about a situation that is your fault. Enjoy your crowded neighborhoods while the elected officials line their pockets. Oh, and also enjoy taking public transportation. You voted in support of that, too.
When the community does not support the local business, a small/family business has no choice but to make a business decision. People want the charm of nice local or non-chain businesses but you have a community person say basically 'close your business' and the community stops patronizing. Good luck getting the city to back your community because the city is not saying no to housing projects.
I grew up on this place but, really "financial disaster". How many millions did you sell your property for? What are you talking about? You sold your property now enjoy retirement!
These greedy bastards always sellout and never care what the results are. They are not for the community or culture. It’s no different than anywhere else.
F u ! You sold out the community now you get your just due ! This is also democrats destroying our communities! You blew it big time being greedy ! Typical immigrant, uses our communities, say they are a part ! THEN SELL US OUT FOR MONEY , GET CAUGHT AND MAKE EXCUSES ! Seen this for 60 years ! WONDER IF THIS IS COVER BECAUSE THEY USED IMMIGRANTS AS SLAVE LABOR TO TAKE ADVANTAGE IMMIGRANTS

I work across the street and saw the drone guys filming the aerial shots of this earlier today. Was wondering what they were doing it for!

More like Newscum wont go back there after his covid lock down
The city needs to do away with its spine less democratic ways
The patrons and boycotters all look like Democrats. You get what you vote for.
Hell no. He deceived us, sold us out. He can go broke.
He didn’t sell u out, the city and its greedy politicians did.
The plea is disrespectful
He’s selfish he probably knew from the start what will happen and now he’s crying about he’s business.. he betrayed the trust of others
Is that the same place that was raided a few years ago for immigration violations? Twice?
No sympathy for him, he got his money and is now crying.
i don’t buy it. i’ve been to that restaurant, business is slow because the restaurant sucks.
We were going to get our wedding cake from here but there customer service was terrible.
Horrors scrape and build philosophy… ruining beach fronts north and south !
