Also, we don't see families sitting at the kitchen table for a meal anymore. It's often served in the living room in front of TV and cell phones. Taking the time to eat and have conversations is also important.
You are right: in French schools, and in France in general, we don't just see eating as a way to satisfy that nasty sensation of hunger by gobling down anything that just "tastes" good, but we also take into consideration the necessity for human beings to ingest vitamins (natural ones!), minerals, fibres, etc. to be healthy and for kiddies to grow as best as possible.
What on earth happened to the American society which made it forget that, and ingest any type of artificial crap as a means to "feed" itself?
They are sea snails
These are not snails, they are whelks, shellfish in the same way as oysters or mussels and scallops. Personally I don't like them too much, I find them a bit rubbery but with an aioli or a good mayonnaise it's okay and then it's excellent for your health.
It's normal to give the best to children, aren't they the future? Not to mention that we don't joke about food in France, it's a matter of the utmost importance.😉
En France : aller chez Mc Donald's est une récompense, pas une solution de facilité. Les Maman disent aux enfants "Samedi si vous etes gentils nous irons chez Mc Do
1:42 Gotta love YT auto subtitles : phonetically transform "bouillabaisse" by "booya base" is poetically bonkers. And could give a cool name idea for Marseille restaurant owners.
Yeah, let's be fair, in most French schools it's not like that. You learn the menu of the day when you go to the self, the quality is "meh". Not bad, but not good either. It is balanced, but that's just what it is about. Most schools just have normal cooks, not chefs…
It's France, what did you expect? It gets even better with school lunches in Italy.
They get the real good gourmet stuff.
I'm proud of this in France but to be fair, it's not in every school like that. Some schools are provided industrial catering, the quality is…industrial/processed food, but there is still variety and balance.
This year, in all the schools restaurants of France, they've stop the mandatory 4 to 5 courses; now it's only 3 courses: starters, main meal, dairy/cheese or dessert or fruits when till last year it was dairy/cheese and dessert or fruit.
My grand-daughter (8yo) barely never complain about her school restaurant menus and she is used to a good quality of food at home with almost everything made from scratch, and with all the vegetables comings from the farmers market.
My heart is crying when in movies or videos I see children of USA going to the school with a lunch box filled with peanut butter sandwichs…From a point of view of a French grand-mother, it's close to child abuse, and I'm certain that it's viewed as that for most of the French parents (and a big part of Europe). Sorry guys, I love you, but this…
NB: What the narrator shows as "escargots" are not; they are "bulots", a shellfish. Still, quite exotic for kids' menus.
It's absolutely not about being fancy. It's about being healthy. Food regulation and food education are a matter of'public health.
Official 2024 data from the WHO ranking countries by obesity rates : the US ranks 13th most obese country worldwide with a rate of 46.87%. France rank 149th with only 10.92%
A soda in the US contains around 40% more sugar than thé same one in France. More than 1500 dues, preservatives, artificial aromas are légalei' the US but banned in the EU. Take mountain dew for example. In the US it contains some.ingredients that are also used to make the chemicals for dire extinguishers
And i'm not even talking about diabetes or Heart diseases rate, or the fact that on average life expectancy in France is 6 years longer than in the US.
And there are also some other social norms that help. Better work life balance, higher minimum wage, longer lunch breaks, walkanle cities, much longer vacations invreasing physical activity and better mental health, crime rate being 5 times lower so that kids can play outside, average cost of'living being 40% lower … And best healthcare system worldwide according tonthe who vs worst system among OECD countries for the US in yerms of quality and accessibility helping preventive care
Overall the FDA is a joke. The way the richest country on Earth treats it's own citizens is a disgrace on so many levels. I spent 3 years in the US . Everything felt like a massive downgrade. You guys deserve better. Sure we pay taxes but at least they benefit us. And when you do the math we actually spend less for much better outcomed than you spend in taxes, health insurance, prescription bills and also tuition and so on.
The US is definitely a backwards country when it comes to being a civilized nation
the video looks like it was recorded in 09 haha, but the video was awesome tho
