  1. Very interesting tasting today, as SuperTuscans have really not been on my radar. I’m going to have to seek some out.
One criticism: your pronunciation of French wine names is not good- someone with your level of wine knowledge should really be better with this.

  2. 11:23am – Love the Bordeaux wines. I went there last March, thanks to Vincent’s (V is for Vino) recommendations. Hard to match these wines, although tuscan wines are amazing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  3. This happens to be a topic I’m exploring right now! Pitting a 2nd wine from Bordeaux and Tuscany against each other. I have Duluc de Branaire Ducru vs Il Bruciato and am looking forward to the tasting!

  4. I prefer Bordeaux and super Tuscans over new world. Although I haven’t had as much success with second label Bordeaux’s. If I’m choosing between a second label Bordeaux vs a first label (whether that’s old or new world) and it’s the same price, I take the first label

  5. I've heard the argument that first bottlings from smaller, "less prestigious" Bordeaux chateau are better than second or third bottlings from top Bordeaux houses. The reason given is that they are the flagship product and the smaller houses put 100%+ effort into their top wines, whereas second and third bottlings from top chateaux might not get as much attention and/or be made from lower quality fruit comparatively. Would be interesting to do a show on this topic

  6. Great video again.95% of the wines I drink are red Bordeaux.2nd labels are good too.Like:Connetable de Talbot,Frank Phelan,La dame de Montose,Pavillon Rouge and many more.Cheers.

  7. I am an equal opportunity wine drinker! Love drinking widely but if pushed, I still like a good Claret… I know it's very traditional, like I still like oak in my chardonnay! Maybe I am showing my age?

  8. Would be interesting to taste Bordeaux seconds? I am always on the lookout for a good one.
My latest favourite is the La Dame de Montrose.

  9. Great battle between France and Italy. I love Bordeaux and for sure great Italians. Good things happening in Bolgheri/Tuscany by example. This tasting screams for a another battle of Bordeaux style blends: California vs Australia. Or Chili vs South Africa.

  10. Hi Matthew, nice review. I'm from Bordeaux and after a few tastings I find that the 2019 vintage drinks much better young than the 2018. There is often freshness in the 2019 compared to the 2018 which is more powerful and needs to mellow out for me.

  11. Tenuta Luce is one of my favorite wines ever. Sangiovese and Merlot give a fantastic result. If you are a sangio lover, give it a try 😉

  12. "Tuscan flare" is a smart way to put it…there's a flavour that links Chianti, Supertuscans, Montalcino, and I really don't know how to describe it, but I get very excited when I find it.

I love Tuscany, but I find wines from Bordeaux that really deliver the goods and are super affordable. From Tuscany, I find affordable Bordeaux blends, but not cheap like Cotes de Bordeaux or those wines that come with just the name of the AOC on it.

In terms of South America, I think Bordeaux Blends from Mendoza are – for my palate – consistently better than the ones from Chile with similar prices. Some of the most expensive blends are comparable to the European ones, but, in general, I prefer the ones from Tuscany and Bordeaux.

I had Las Notas de Jean Claude (2018) in the beggining of this year, and it's a beauty from Mendoza. One of the better Bordeaux blends I've ever had.

  13. It's difficult to choose one region outside of Bordeaux for Bordeaux blends, I think for me it's more about cooler climate reds with higher acidity and a mix of red and black fruits. For me if a wine has indigenous varietals in a Bordeaux blend it gives it more personality or another layer of depth, like Bikaver/Bull's Blood in Hungary or other Central/Eastern Europe wine regions with similar practices. 2019 seems to have been a better year in Europe overall. Cheers!

  14. I lean more toward Bdx but the two Super Tuscans you presented are intriguing. Will def seek them out. Great video, as always!
