i am rating the national dish of every country to figure out which is the best one today i’m trying indonesia this is called nasi goreng you know me i love fried rice and this is probably my favorite fried rice dish i’ve ever made the mixins are pretty simple we have some onion some red bell pepper and some garlic and then it’s just a matter of making a regular fried rice however what makes this special is the way we season it we have this shrimp paste which is an umami packed substance that unfortunately smells not so nice then we have ketchup which is a sweet aromatic soy sauce and is the main flavor component of this dish and a touch of sesame oil to finish it not only that but it’s also traditionally served with a crispy fried egg on top and of course i did that too this gets an 8.2 out of 10 from me which puts it at the top of the charts because it’s the first one in the series so let’s see is anything going to dethrone this what country should i do next

  1. Honestly if it had been given anything other than a good rating I would have called for war. I grew up on Nasigoreng and it's maybe the only food I have an emotional attachment to.

  2. We sort of colonized the dish as dutchies, probably because we colonized indonesia before.

Maybe that's why he added bell pepper too, to the confusion of some commenters. I've seen bell pepper being used in nasi practically always
