Here is a must buy for Red Wine Lovers; a 2018 Bodegas Atteca Garnacha Old Vines wine. Typically Grenache grapes produce a lighter bodied wine…however in this case you could mistake this for a Syrah or Blend given it’s bold, medium/full bodied profile and high alcohol content (15%).
Tasting notes: intense flavors of cherries, blueberries and dark berries. Sweetness is moderate/low and there are lesser notes of baking spice, vanilla, spice & a tartness on the finish. On Vivino this would rate around the 4.0/5 mark and for the price (approx $33 Cdn) is a no-brainer.
Bodegas Atteca (Gil Family Estates) from Aragon, Spain has their vines planted on rocky slate soils at 3,000 ft. above sea level. Vineyards are dry-farmed without use of pesticides or herbicides and then hand-harvested. This Grenache is fermented in stainless steel before aging for 10 months in French oak.
