Today’s Highlights:
The Trinidad and Tobago Government has claimed victory in its multi-million-dollar civil asset forfeiture claim in Miami, associated with the construction of the Piarco Airport terminal building, over two (2) decades ago.
• In a media release issued on Wednesday 29th March, 2023, Minister Faris Al Rawi, who acted as a corporate representative of T&T, disclosed that after deliberating for approximately two (2) hours in court, businessman, Steve Ferguson was found liable for multiple claims of fraud in connection with the redevelopment of the Piarco International Airport in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
• The former Minister of Finance under the Basdeo Panday Administration, Brian Kuei Tung, and Raul Guitierrez Jr, the former principal of Calmaquip Engineering Corporation, who was responsible for providing specialized equipment at the airport, were also found liable as they stood before the Miami jury.
A man was shot and killed inside his Vehicle at a Gas Station near Flower Pot beach in Point-A-Pierre early on Friday 31st March, 2023.
• At this time, the deceased has only been identified as Rishi Etwaroo of Claxton Bay.
• Rishi was reportedly sitting in his Toyota Fielder Station Wagon registered PEA 311, when he was ambushed and shot to death.
The body of a man who is yet to be identified was found shot to death near a pond in Ste Madeleine early on Thursday 30th March, 2023.
• The victim was identified as 27-year-old Nehemiah Sooklal of Lightbourn Road, Gasparillo.
A man was gunned down while liming at a parlor in Laventille on Wednesday 29th March, 2023.
• The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Matthew Granger aka “Drifter” employed at Carib Brewery as a loader who lived at Duke Street in Port-of-Spain.
• Around 5:30pm, Granger was liming at a parlor on Upper Laventille Road, near Blondell Alley in Laventille, when two (2) men approached.
• One of the suspects who was armed with a gun, shot Granger several times before they fled the scene.
A shooting in Malabar, Arima, left one (1) man dead and his car stolen on Wednesday 29th March, 2023.
• The deceased was identified as 36-year-old Mikhail Pierre also known by his Alias “Max”, a PH Taxi driver of Ronald Cleveland and Lennox Yearwood Expressway in Malabar, Arima.
• Around 10:20pm, Residents of Harold Joseph Place, Malabar, heard several loud explosions, which raised their suspicion.
27-year-old Darriel Diaz was shot and wounded while at an NP Gas Station in Arima on Wednesday 29th March, 2023.
Former United States President, Donald Trump was indicted on Thursday 30th March 2023.
• Donald Trump who was the 45th president of the United States of America is reportedly the first ex-president to ever be convicted of a crime.
• A Manhattan grand jury has voted to indict Donald Trump on charges involving payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter.
• Trump, who has denied any wrongdoing and has repeatedly attacked the investigation as politically motivated, is expected to surrender to authorities next week.
• Trump faces other potential legal problems as he seeks to reassert control of the Republican Party and delay allies who are seeking or are likely to oppose him for the presidential nomination.
