Another 24 hour SoCal Bike packing trip with the Dads. This time we ride from The La Sierra Metrolink station over to Skyline Dr. In Corona. We climb up to Joe Beeks Place at the top of Blackstar Canyon. Joe Beeks built this family vacation home in 1929 and later was abandoned in the early 70’s.
We headed down blackstar canyon paying a visit to the indian camp of the Tongva tribe, whom legends state were massacred by American fur trappers. Many other legends of this most haunted Canyon tell tales of KKK, satanic worship, and ghosts of the Tongya slave tribe.
Continuing on via Peters Canyon trial, out to Quail hill Shopping center in Irvine to have dinner, before the next major climb over Shady canyon and Bommer Medows trails. Overlooking irvine from atop signal peak, we then head over to the Upper Moro Campground for the night.
After our night of sleep and coffee, we headed down to the coast where we stop for Breakfast at the famous Shake Shack for great breakfast burritos, fried egg sandwiches, and french toast.
With our tummy’s now full we head along crystal cove and spot some Possible humpback whales.
After some debate we decided to take the 100 year old Beeks family ferry to Balboa and observe the huge waves at the Wedge of Newport Beach. Continuing up the Newport Backbay to Michelson for lunch at the Gourmet Burger joint “The Counter” with less than 5 miles to go we all celebrate with drinks and great food. We finish at the Tustin Metrolink station as we aboard the train and head back to La Sierra.
