There are several right bank regions offering great value wines, but few can claim as much involvement from top producers as Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. The wine I am tasting is Chateau de Pitray ‘Les Prairies’ Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux 2020 a wine from an estate where Nina Mitjavile is consultant winemaker and proprietor Jean de Boigne is the 25th generation of his family to run the property, but other producers with estates in Castillon include Stephan van Neippberg, the Durantou family, the Mitjavile family, Silvio Denz and the Perse family – All of whom have followed the clay limestone soils from Saint Emiion in the west to exploit the great terroir of this lesser known appelation.
