"La rentrée" in that case yes it mean the return… but the return to your activities like school and work (The expression "la rentrée" litteraly mean "back to school" but since most of the people and work follow the same schedule as schools we also use la rentrée when we came back from holidays). As a tourist you can have the feeling this is a good periods but in reality septembre is the end of the Holiday for us.
