Cheesy French Onion Meatball Bake
Juicy beef meatballs, caramelized onions, rich French onion gravy, and bubbly melted cheese make this a cozy, satisfying dinner.
Ingredients
1½ lbs ground beef
½ cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 tsp garlic powder
Salt & black pepper, to taste
3 tbsp butter
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
3 cups beef broth
1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
Instructions
Mix beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into 1-inch meatballs.
Brown meatballs in a skillet, then remove and set aside.
Melt butter in the same skillet. Add onions and cook for about 15 minutes until caramelized.
Stir in flour for 1 minute, then gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth.
Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 15 minutes, until cooked through.
Top with Gruyère or Swiss cheese and broil for 2–3 minutes until melted and bubbly.
Serve hot with crusty bread or noodles.
