Visitors queue every day for Paris’s famous L’Entrecôte restaurants—but are they really waiting for exceptional steak, or for a successful formula and its secret sauce?
#Lentrecote #beststeakinparis #foodinparis

In this video, I compare four versions of the famous salad, steak-frites and sauce concept: Le Relais de l’Entrecôte in Saint-Germain and Rue Marbeuf, Le Relais de Venise near Porte Maillot, and L’Entrecôte de Paris near the Champs-Élysées.

Then I take you to three restaurants where the quality of the beef is the real attraction: La Maison de l’Aubrac, L’Ami Pierre and Bidoche.

From a simple set menu with almost no decisions to an extraordinary selection of cuts, breeds, weights and maturations, which experience is right for you—and where will meat lovers find the best value?

This video includes extracts from restaurant reviews previously published on Paris Top Tips.

  1. I agree about chicken livers – don’t like them. I’m cheap, so I love a good deal on a steak frites meal. The fries must be fresh cut potatoes and fried perfectly. No frozen potatoes. It’s too easy for restaurants to use cheaper tougher cuts of beef. So, I have to force myself to pay for good beef!

  2. We dined at Bidoche and L’ami Pierre last December. Both were amazing for different reasons. L’ami for its warmth, Bidoche for the purest beef experience. Both delivered an excellent entrecôte experience; L’ami stood out for the ris d’agneau on the menu as a starter, Bidoche for the range of offerings and the expert advice. We will visit both again when we are back in Paris in November-December! Thank you, Alain!

  3. What is so valuable about this video (and generally your other recent reviews) is the rigor and standardization of the method of assessment. There is room for your opinion about things, or your preferences that may be idiosyncratic to you, but you hew very close to objective measures in your assignment of points. Bravo!!

  4. So, if one objects to dull knives, is it acceptable to bring one's personal Opinel to the restaurant? I have one that I specially reserve for steakhouses. It is VERY sharp and I keep it that way.

  5. There's one in London and NYC. I've eaten at both. Typical experience. I haven't eaten at the one at Porte Maillot.

The food's acceptable but it's not THAT good to stand in line. When you see a long queue it's social media sheep doing what they're told, not that the experience it that good.

  6. I usually manage lunch in the one in Montparnasse without queuing if I go early, but I forego the second helping so I can enjoy one of the excellent puddings! I may try Le Relais de Venise on my next visit, as I love an excellent French fry!

  7. c'est n'est pas une nouevelle video. j'ai deja vu tout ce video. 'e monsiuer a metre et melange viex videos ensemble. j'ai connais deja tout ce videos. boof

  8. Been to Paris so many times and never tried it – maybe one day, but not too fussed either

  9. Do you have any recommendations in the 6th Arrondissement apart from Relais de l'Entrecote, I mean)?

  10. Great video! I really enjoy your insight and your scoring/grading method.
I hope other food show/channel could adopt similar method, rather than just acting/reacting like every bite was the most delicious thing ever.

  11. I ate an entrecôte steak with foie gras sauce in Amboise in 2019 and it was the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. I still think about it often.

  12. Again a lovely informative video. Glad that it is about steak because as a South African, I have yet to find a good steak in Paris. I will definitely try your last three choices. Any thoughts on the Beefbar?

  13. I wouldn't call "L'Entrecote" meat average. It's tough and tasteless. Also, not cheap for the amount of food you get. (Relais, St. Germain)
Thanks for the review of the other places! On my list for next time.

  14. very interesting, i lived in France last year and whenever i went out for steak, it always seemed to be Entrecote, which i was told was from the ribeye and i always thought it was more likely a new york or sirloin. they just never had the rich marbling found on a ribeye….i always got tons of angry rants from expats.
