I recently moved into my apartment and unfortunately it came with one of those classic rental ‘boob’ lights that clashes with my antiques. I want to cover it without removing the original fixture, as I live in a rental.
I’m planning on buying a vintage lampshade, gluing a fabric circle to the base, and attaching the shade at the opening. The lightbulbs will still be covered by the original glass, and I barely use my overhead light, so I’m not worried about this being fire-hazardous.
However, I’m not very technical or handy, so I’m worried this project may be harder than I anticipate? I haven’t found any exact tutorials online, so I was hoping for some input on steps, attachment, and supplies.

There’s no way that won’t look incredibly awkward. The boob lamp cover is insanely easy to remove – just store it in a closet during your lease and replace it when you move out.
Honestly, just leave it. It doesn’t clash, it’s just very understated in comparison to your bed. The style is actually vintage. Instead, add some vintage table/floor lamps to light the room that you can take with you when you move – look for some with a glass shade that coordinates with the glass of the overhead.
Trying to DIY up a fancy shade for it is just going to look like you are trying too hard to make everything matchy matchy.
