Under contract to buy this home and trying to get an idea where to place our standard-width couch with a lounge style extension that could be switched to either end and matching one-person chair.
I'm personally leaning toward semi-floating the couch facing the fireplace, and the back spaced around 6 feet from the opposite wall of the fireplace to make a kind of entry way from the main door. However, my fiance despises the idea of floating furniture and wants the couch against a wall

Across from the fireplace is the way to go but I would have a shelf/semi wall behind the couch to separate the space and make an alcove for the living room. That way your fiancé gets to put the couch against something
