I love the new sofa and the layout feels right, but the plain rug I have under it makes the whole space read a little flat and empty.
I'm tempted to swap in something bolder with a pattern or some real color, but I'm nervous it'll fight with the sofa and end up looking busy instead of intentional.
So, play it safe or take the risk? And if you'd keep the rug simple, what else would you do to make the room feel less empty?

Absolutely go for something with color
Front feet of couch go on the rug. And yeah the color is matchy matchy.
Absolutely add some color. They meld into each other as is.
(And just in case this is how it normally looks – rug should be at least partially under the sofa, not in front of it)
Maybe a pastel… Mint green, powder blue, lilac?
And maybe two or three small pillows that incorporate the cream and rug color
