I’m pretty conservative with decor. Most of my home has natural tones with little splashes of soft pink, seafoam green, lots of natural plants, etc. Since this hallway is so small and leads to my kids‘ rooms I decided to make it more colorful and took inspiration from their bedsheets…. I think I messed up big. I need somebody to tell me if this looks ok. If it doesn’t, tell me how to either save it or if I need to just cry and paint the entire thing beige. Is it the turquoise door that’s ruining it? Considering changing it to a lighter muted blue.

editing to add: you guys are making me feel better. Maybe it’s just shock. I haven’t even finished the bottom parts of the frames because I was convinced I was changing the colors anyway. Would you change the white or leave it? Part of me thinks changing it to a cream/beige would make the colors not seems so stark and vibrant.

No please I love it T_T

I can see what youre saying though, the blue door might be too close to the other blue color. Go crazy with it, I actually really like the colors!

I am a retired interior house painter. My advice is always do what makes you feel good looking at. I think this is very well done and I personally love it.

Unironically very much love this! It’s joyful, but the colors you chose are not garish or childish. Live with it for a while and I bet you’ll get used to it and really like it.

When you look at the turquoise door head on do you like the color combo? If yes, maybe it’s this angle (photo). Could you swap the yellow and turquoise doors?

I don’t hate it. I think it’ll look a lot better with a different flooring option

It’s super cute. I would actually consider a wall paper on the top half of the wall.

I think it’s GREAT! Especially for a kids’ hallway. Go big or go home and I love that you went big. I bet the kids love it. Honestly the issue is the carpet and light—if you imagine this with some nice wood floorboards, it’s fantastic.

Not to say you need to run out and change the carpet; I just often see this kind of thing with beautiful bright wood-floored spaces. If it’s not matching up to the image in your head I’d say that’s why.

Well frankly, only the rug is irritating me. If it’s for kids I don’t think they’ll think a color is off?

I would put a rug/runner that’s a neutral color but a bit more jazzy. Also, their bedroom doors will be open most of the time, right? I think it’s fine!! They’re bright but muted. I think the kids will love it

I love it. I think it’s the carpet that’s kind of throwing things off balance. This would look amazing with wood floors. Regardless, it looks great!

Its really cute if you want to elevate it consider a large bubble chandelier and some brass door knocker door stops that are animal themed there’s like a bunny with a monocle out there and an octopus.

Could try a nice Campbell soup Andy Warhol in place of the flower that pulls in your colors

It is beautiful. Don’t doubt yourself. Life is too short. We need happy colors.

We have those sheets too! And I love the colors. It looks good to me. Maybe you just need to get used to it? I always hate paint for like two days before I am happy. I think carpet/floor upgrade would also make a huge difference!

I think it’s great, very vibrant and happy – what’s hurting it are the light fixture and the carpet; they don’t suit the aesthetic and they are giving a bit of practical preschool.

I love it!!! The colors go really well together. This would be such a fun and happy hallway to walk down as a kid!

I love this. It’s joyful and cozy without being childish.

  19. I love it!!! The colors are muted tones that read whimsical but not childish at all. It looks very adult and fun.
