I really want to change the look of my fireplace because to me it looks very Flintstone-y and I want a more streamlined look. I would like to go toward a faux-wood mcm look but I'm undecided if I will regret covering up the stone down the line. Which looks better to you? BTW the fireplace is non-functional and I'm in FL so the faux-wood wouldn't be a fire hazard.

The stone looks better.
Definitely stick with the stones…that wood look is truly terrible 😖
Please be more specific- is the fireplace just for show (does not have a chimney or exterior vent if gas) or do you just not use it?
Don’t even consider changing it. It’s beautiful hand laid stone.
Go with the GUMBY look.
The stone is beautiful. Please don’t change it
Please do not replace the stone. Maybe consider limewashing it to tone it down.
Keep the stone. I would LOVE to have that in my house but it would cost a fortune. I would love to see some wood beams or paneling on the ceiling, but that’s just me.
Keep the stone, replace the fireplace doors, and replace or paint the mantelpiece.
Omg the stone is beautiful!
The stone is warmer and just lovely
Because the walls are so light, it stands out more. I feel like if the wall around it was darker, your eye wouldn’t be so drawn to it.
Nice room, I’d keep the stone.
Definitely keep- it’s gorgeous, just decorate around it
Keep the stone
I’m all for wood, love the look. But not in this case. Leave it be. It looks so much better
Stone or go with a horizontal pattern
I like the stone better, but would whitewash it to tone it down, as someone else suggested. I really dislike the look of my own fireplace, which is LVT.

I’m not really a “stone” or a “brick” kind of girl, but I would say stick with the stone 1000000%. That looks really good, beautiful actually.
How about overgrouting the stone. It keeps the stone look, but tones it down quite a bit. Look up “overgrouting stone fireplace” if you’re not familiar with the term.
Gross
Keep the stones
Neither. But I can’t think of a better alternative
Oh dear god. Leave the fireplace alone.
Beautiful room! So much natural light ☀️ I think the stone looks better, but I don’t love it. Maybe painting it white? Someone above mentioned over grouting (I just looked it up and that looks awesome! Would definitely fit your space)
Keep the stone
Stone.
Definitely stone
The wood looks like a vertical bowling alley!
That wood is BAD
Stone
I would lean French chateau style to make it lean less “lodge”
Or more modern, with a mirror and clean light shapes..maybe add with wispy florals or greenery like here

Option 2 is so ugly I can’t believe anyone would consider it.
I will come find you and wedgie you every day for a month if you destroy that beautiful stone fireplace. It is expertly hand built. In fact, I’ll find the mason that lovingly placed every stone and we’ll do the double-atomic-wedgie. That’s one pulling in back and one pulling in front. Just leaving you swinging in the wind. /s But really, that stone is so nice and is a beautiful transition from your living space to the view behind it.The fake looking slab of wood looks cheap and will look dated in 5 years.
Keep the stone. The word faux is your first hint.

The stone look is 100x better. Stick with it!
