Hi everyone,
My boyfriend and I are furnishing our space and I’m hitting a wall with wood tones. Our TV unit and our couch I’m guessing will be our anchor pieces.
• Our Tv unit is a dark burnt black walnut
• Our couch is a mix of brown and terracotta. It’s arriving on monday, you can find pictures of it attached.
• Our dining table is a mix of burnt black walnut and standard walnut
• Our dining chairs are closer to standard walnut, I’d say at least.
I know mixing woods is fine, but I'm terrified of two things:
- The desk & coffee station will clash with the TV unit.
- We’ll end up with "too much wood" and it'll look like a log cabin — I debated a chrome shelving unit for the coffee station instead, but worried it'd feel too cold/industrial). Instead, we’re getting chrome lamps and perhaps shelves on top of the station to balance it out.
Now, the debate:
1. Standing Desk: My boyfriend wants a standing desk, I initially didn’t want one because although I game a lot, I hate the look of male game rooms/gaming desks, which are very close to standing desks. However, I conceded because function over aesthetics. Problem is, most standing desks look identical (generic white/black/walnut/oak tops with metal black/grey/white legs). My boyfriend and I thought of getting an all black combo, however, A) black desks collect dust so much easier and it’s much more visible, and B) they’re closest in looks to a gaming desk. I added the pictures of some options we have so far, I’m just scared the walnut top will clash too much/be too warm next to our TV unit.
Which color combo wouldn't clash with our dark TV unit?
2. Coffee Station / Buffet: I’m having a hard time finding a dark burnt walnut station, should we stick to regular walnut, or skip wood entirely and go for chrome? I’m afraid the station + tv unit + desk all on one wall would look too wood heavy.
Another parameter to consider with the buffet is the height. I like the raw wood buffet would it’s around 78cm tall, which might be too short for a coffee station. Ideally, 85-90cm height would be good, I think.
I've attached photos of the options we have so far, but we are completely open to other brand recommendations if you think none of these fit.
