I’d usually say plant but that air vent would be hard on any live plant and there’s almost zero light there. I’d do a small table with a nice lamp since you have pretty limited lighting in that space. Even a pretty floor lamp would work.

A shrub
Tall plant, or a table/tall cabinet of some sort would be my first go-to ideas.
Some sort of indoor rock/plant garden would be cool
