My wife, Jean, and I intend to thru-hike the Camino de Santiago, specifically the Camino Frances, in 2026, and I will vlog our experience. Follow us under “Old Man and the AT.”
I am Mike Current, 63-years-old, and retired military. I served for over 30 years in the US Army.
After retirement, I opened two small businesses. But after a few years, I sold both businesses because they were taking time away from pursuing personal goals, like hiking and sailing.
I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in 2020, the Appalachian Trail (AT) in 2022, and the Continental Divide Trail in 2024, earning my Triple Crown. I then thru-hiked the AT again in 2025.
I vlogged (video journaled) my experiences under “Old Man and the PCT,” “Old Man and the AT,” and “Old Man and the CDT,” respectively.
I sailed around the Chesapeake Bay in my Tayana 37 sailboat over the summer of 2023 and vlogged the experience under the YouTube channel “Old Man and the Sea.”
I do not monetize my videos in any manner. However, if you would like to contribute to helping veterans thru-hike as a form of therapy for PTSD, please consider donating to Warrior Expeditions at https://warriorexpeditions.org/

Fabulous time you’re having despite the rain. Trail friends are multiplying. Beautiful country. Safe hike .
Love the guy pulling his pack!
Morning, Mike and Mrs Mike. Ya'll are doing great. I like that you're kinda taking your time. I know you're doing it because of Mrs. Mike's knee. But It will be, probably already has been a blessing. Gosh, I wish I could do it. Would like to ask a favor. Next time you are in a church, would you say a prayer for me. I've recently become aware of a serious medical issue. I'm asking a lot of people for prayer. Sure would appreciate it. Thank you. Mike, really appreciate your carrying me along for this trip. Thanks for sharing the videos. Take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.

Beautiful nature
Out of curiosity, what was your MOS in the military?
🦋❤️
Still looks great
Good morning Mike; my wife and I have been folllowing your hikes since the PCT days. The name of song was Rock On by David Essex. Yes, I had to look up name to be sure. It was good but my favorite was your version of Country Road by John Denver when you entered West Virginia on the AT.
Nice – I was wondering about the "Albuquerque" Pretty sure all who have used an electronic device to write have ended up on the wrong end of auto-correct
Wonderful scenery
Love all the history you are sharing !
Slow and easy is healing ✨️
Stay safe you two!!
Never stop singing 😀
Im really enjoying your videos. You are doing a wonderful job of capturing the vibe of the Camino.
I’m hoping you discuss more fully the religious component. Buen camino.
Really enjoy the stories about the places along your journey. Thanks and safe travels for both of you.
It's good to see Laurie's (Jean's) face and interacting a little more on camera. Was wondering if you could tell me again the name of your book and how to purchase a copy. Thank you. Hope all is well on trail.
Rock on David Essex
4:28 i wouldn't have noticed it

"wine on tap" is one of the many things that makes the Camino so popular.
Some years back when I was walking Camino Frances I stayed in the same village and it was actually possible to get the key for the castle gate and hike up for a really nice view. But I had a better weather that day 😉
Great motto there at the end! Wise people on the trail there!
Loved the shout out 🙂 That was an impressive rock arrow. We miss you!
❤☕️🍷☔️🙏🛌😊, Thank you for another thought provoking and entertaining video. I was wondering if the rain was cold… the rain we experienced on del Norte last April was cold. The Camino experience would not be the same if you camped out all the time… the accommodation and meals are a big part of the experience. I carry a bivy bag, the Gatewood Cape and a backpacking quilt even on civilized travel, but that's because I have stayed in a few hotels that maybe I should not have and I have had my reservations disappear a few times. My bivy has been sprayed with an insecticide that work to keep fleas, ticks and bed bugs away, so worst case my luggage stays in the bathtub and I sleep in my bivy on the floor or bed… I never experienced any bad accommodation on Camino. Europe just seems to have higher standards than some places in the Americas. I loved that you took advantage of the acoustics at the cistern. Thank you again for taking us along on your journey. Blessings.
Singing, probably not one of your strong points.
Hey did you find the hat you lost on the AT last year, or is that a different one. It looks well used.
