Interior designer Alexander Doherty welcomes us inside his extraordinary Upper West Side apartment, a richly layered New York City home where classic architecture meets deeply personal collecting.
After years of searching for the right space, Alexander transformed this top-floor rental into a refined retreat with wall-to-wall silk carpeting, upholstered walls, custom millwork, and a thoughtfully curated mix of French antiques, Scandinavian seating, and neoclassical details.
From a dramatic living room anchored by a decorative fireplace to a library lined with 19th-century French bookcases, every room reflects Alexander’s love of history, craftsmanship, and storytelling. His bedroom is filled with favorite artworks, vintage finds, and treasured objects collected from Paris, Egypt, and beyond—each piece chosen for beauty, memory, and meaning.
Alexander has masterfully turned a standard New York rental into a soulful, elegant sanctuary that feels both grand and deeply personal.

French regency is 300 years ago.
Great guy. Didnt start every sentence with I, but focused on the subject. I learnt a lot
Absolutely beautiful apartment!
Amazing, but he must have a proper corbusier
Home owner died, at least say, sadly died 😔
You re right, the mirror totally fooled me. Nice appartment.😊
The living room looks like an antique store
Why place a painting infront of a mirror, it doesn't make sense
The panelled screens on either side are too high, make the ceilings look lower and take up too much space
I love some of the decorations pieces, your artwork. Many accessories I would choose from. I would call this apartment a mouth piece that promote interested conversation from guests. A lot to talk about and nothing boring about this apartment and the interior decorating. Brilliant taste and style. I been interested in interior decorating for few years. Love designing and 40s an 60s vintage pieces, especially table top lamps and redesigning and upgrading 70s hanging swag lamps. My mom worked at lamp manufacture putting together swag lamps (with a long chain) as a job for Companies like JCPennies and Sears, just to name a few. She designed 2 of her own custom made swag lamps that hung in our living room when growing up as a child. She did do upholstery of old chairs she would purchased from thrift stores and changed the fabric that cover the chairs (my mom passed away years ago) and stained the wood. Gave the chairs a new look. That's one of the reasons I got interested in interior designing and interested in vintage lamps, anything decorating pieces – all sort of house accessories. Gardening and landscaping is another interests love getting my hands dirty with gardening from planting. Thank you for opening your apartment to us. I love and enjoyed the touring of your apartment. ♥️😊
🤣Geez, this comment section…yes he’s handsome but take it easy.
My goodness, I feel like a country bumpkin after enjoying a little time with this sophisticated gentleman. Very educational.
Well I could listen to him talk all day
Stunning.
Don't agree with faux fireplaces
A masterclass!
Beautiful ! So is his apartment !!
An absolute feast for the senses !
I couldn’t enjoy this video, because I was constantly saying, “I love that! Ohhh, I really like that! That’s brilliant! OMG! Beautiful! I want!”
la table basse du hall d'entrée ne s'inspire pas d'un temple mais, du porche d' entrée des salines royale d'Arc-et-Senans en France
Chronic purchaser = hoarder
Sophisticated taste that is timeless. Down to earth and unpretentious to boot.
Love abstract art amongst antique furniture
I can watch this non-stop
Gorgeous space…a true reflection of his creative soul. One of the most divinely collected interiors! No strict rules means you can breakthrough to new creative levels. Thank you for sharing your incredible place
There are simply too many notes, cut a few and it will be perfect.
The narrow hallway would have looked wider without the panelling
Sorry he keeps saying Rental. I didn’t know you could make such additions to a rental. I’m amazed
🤔I think I’m in love 😂
It's full of character and interest, and one could wander through for a couple of hours taking it all in. But I have to wonder how he keeps up with dusting.
Impressed how detailed he is and beautifully he explains everything
W o w . . . blown away by this magnificently curated museum of an apartment. I would really enjoy spending some time there!
32:36 Brilliant to see no ‘tv guilt’ here, awesome …
Ps.
This must be the coolest guy in New York.
its very nice but a classic oak parquet floor would be much better than the carpet
Especially love that living room, reminds me of YSL. Oh, and that foyer…..hmmm.
Love the unique lamps! Good, tasteful job everywhere.
. . . instantly new I'd love everything. I did. Do you need a housesitter while you're in Europe. I dust, polish and go barefoot. Hehehe
Lovely to see a man's style only. Down to earth presentation and some wonderful art, furniture and lighting .Enjoyed that very much.❤
This apartment is stunning. Thank you, Homeworthy. You have made this passionate lover of interior decorating very happy. I loved your interview recently on The Business of Home podcast with Dennis Scully. So happy for you!!!!
What a fantastic collection of art, furniture, lighting and objects.
He is so pleasant and relatable.
OMG, I've only seen the preview and I can hardly wait to watch but almost don't want to cuz I want to savor every second. It's as if Steven Gambrel became a maximalist (my secret wish). This is gonna be so good, already claimed it as "in my top 5".
I didn't get whether this apt is rented or owned by him…
He is Like "the good, old Hollywood"….😊
Boy! he's maid must be having panic attaks😅
Cet appartement New-Yorkais est exceptionnel, beaucoup de très belles pièces de collection, un goût certain (et je suis française et parisienne). Merveilleuse visite, merci !
The gentleman's exposure .. travel, living abroad.. has shaped him into a well-rounded, thoughtful person. He's knowledgeable and refined!
I love this apartment and this man. Is he single?
Bravo to intentional style 👏🏻 🦋Gracias 🇨🇺☕️🍮🧿
