Malvasia FC 1880 and a Sercial Cunha 1890. Both Madeira.

Both older than the car, the airplane, and pretty much everyone’s great-grandparents. 🤯

What blows my mind about Madeira isn’t just that bottles like this exist it’s that they’re still alive. Oxidative aging, heat, time. A 19thcentury Sercial still cuts with that bone-dry acidity and vinagrinho. The Malvasia goes the other way, caramel, dried figs, old wood, something almost like aged balsamic but with a finish that won’t quit.

Impressive!!

wild to think these bottles have been sitting around longer than most countries have existed
