She said something about it being an "eyesore" and "troglodytic," which is so hurtful to an accomplished DIY'er like myself.

So I'm appealing to the refined tastes of r/homedecorating to help me save my pride and marriage.

Curtains, you say? So did I. "Makes an already small room feel more cramped," she said. "We're talking 2 inches!" I protested. "Yes, I'm well acquainted with its size, dear," she said.

Mini-skirt curtain for just the top? "Ew, is this your grandma's house?"

And just like that I'm out of ideas.

What's your suggestion for a <$200 covering that will both look good and allow a person to sleep beyond the crack of dawn?

Long-term we want a plantation shutter, but the first quote was $1300, and I'll need to sell some fishing gear or a pair of her shoes to get there. Need a cheaper stop gap to make the room usable for the next time I'm kicked out of our marital bed.

They make window covering sticker sheets you can get online

I would go with some foam board or poster board insert (super cheap DIY)

Buy a $2–$5 white foam board

Cut it to the arch shapePress-fit it into the top window (no hardware)

It will look way cleaner than foil (especially if white)

    Totally removable

You can even wrap it in fabric or paint it to match your wall color

⬆️This is honestly one of the most underrated solutions for odd-shaped windows

Are you looking to block light or simply cover the window for privacy reasons?

Because if you just want to obscure the view inside but don’t mind some light, you can go to any hardware store and find those vinyl window clings that look like stained glass or have patterns.

But if the goal is to darken and block light, you might have to go the “professional fits this with a fancy shade” route.

  8. I was going to suggest window films you can get online or Lowe’s/Home Depot. They come in many patterns, are easy to put on and diffuse the light.

Maybe separate bedrooms if you have space? My husband and I have our own rooms and are happily married. Makes things much easier.

They make sticky paper “shades” that you can put up there. If you want something more permanent, but more expensive, plenty of window covering manufacturers make cellular shades that fit those shapes. Those are often cheaper than shutters.

Why not hang curtains? They make blackout curtains if that’s what you are looking for.

My mom bought ISO foam board cut it to shape and wrapped it in a fabric she liked (using thumb tacks in case she wants to change it out) then stuck in our living room. We have three similar windows in a triangular shape. It looks really nice and helps keeps some of the heat out too.
