This is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Melbourne!
@maison_batard is a four level French restaurant at the Paris end of Bourke Street in Melbourne CBD. It’s from @thelucasgrp (@chinchin, @kisume_au, @grillamericano) and was named one of Australia’s Best New Restaurants by @gourmettraveller.
The main restaurant spans across the first two floors, lively and a bit more formal, with an open kitchen, oyster and caviar bar and smoked mirrors throughout. It connects to their bar as well but I wouldn’t recommend booking that section for dinner unless you’re just having a couple of things – the tables are very small.
Upstairs is Le Club which runs late Thursday to Saturday with live performances and a reduced menu. Then on the rooftop you’ll find La Terrasse, my personal favourite, with a slightly more relaxed menu (but you can still order from the main restaurant menu, if you prefer). This is where we dined for a Sunday lunch catch up with the girls!
⭐️ Champagne Pina Colada⭐️ Dirty Bâtard Martini
✖️ Comté cheese gougères – too dry➖ Beef bourguignon pie – a little fatty but still flavourful➖ Lobster leek croquette – very small but nice➖ Chicken club sandwich – generous but needed more seasoning⭐️ Le cheeseburger – super soft bun, lots of sauce, perfect medium rare patty✔️ Pomme frites – perfect fries⭐️ Chocolate mousse – light, airy, chocolatey perfection
I’d probably skip the small bites unless you’re happy to splurge, they’re very small for the price. It also feels a bit criminal that a burger or club sandwich doesn’t come with even a handful of fries in a sit down restaurant.
Similar to our last visit, it seems food can be a little hit and miss but the atmosphere, drinks and service really carry it and there are still some standout dishes that definitely make it worth going. Perfect spot for a social catch up with friends.
