The Urbina Selección 2000 Rioja is one of the most unique wines we’ve come across, not just because of its age, but because of how it was aged.

After spending about a year in a mix of French and American oak, the wine was transferred into large stainless steel tanks and held there for over 15 years before bottling.

That changes everything.

Instead of evolving in a typical oxidative way, the wine was essentially held in a state of suspended animation. It developed complexity and age, but retained an incredible sense of freshness and fruit.

Now, at 25 years old, it delivers the best of both worlds.

In the glass, you get bright red cherry fruit, spice, subtle earth, and that classic Rioja savory complexity, all supported by silky, fully resolved tannins. There’s a softness and elegance here, but also a surprising vibrancy that you rarely find in wines of this age.
