“The Solitary Gourmet” is about a businessman who travels all over Tokyo for work.
This is a drama series that depicts a man quietly touring the town’s restaurants alone.

There is no flashy story development or narration.
He just quietly enjoys his meal.
The film carefully depicts the indescribable “joy of eating” that comes with such moments.

  2. I've no idea why shows like these are so comforting, but somehow they are & thank god they exist. Thank you for making them available to us foreigners as well! Can't wait to visit Japan again asap

  3. 14:31 This episode is probably one of my favorite depiction of what sonder is (a slang which describes the realization of everyone having their own vivid and complex lives)

Everyone in the store has their own complex lives: a drunkard who went from sad to suddenly cheerful, a fast eater celebrating what he calls a “jackpot,” and a new employee on his way somewhere. Yet we never learn the full details. What happened to the drunkard that changed his mood so quickly? What exactly is the “jackpot” the fast eater is talking about? And what is the new employee going to do in Omiya?

The story implies that they each have lives and stories of their own, just like everyone else. But to us, they are only brief encounters—like specks of dust passing by. people whose stories we glimpse for a moment before moving on.
