Tom Holland has officially found his toughest villain yet, and it isn’t a multiverse threat, it’s an interviewer’s list of “American” foods. In this viral clip, the Spider-Man star is visibly stunned when he asks what would be classified as American food, only to receive answers that he systematically dismantles with polite, British precision.
When the interviewer suggests hamburgers, Tom calmly points out that they are actually German, hailing from the city of Hamburg. However, the real breaking point comes when the follow-up suggestion is “French fries,” leading to a legendary deadpan silence from Tom that has since become a masterclass in accidental comedy.
The debate over the origin of these foods is a frequent point of contention, as researchers often credit Belgium or France with the invention of the fry, while the modern hamburger’s transition from a German “Hamburg steak” to a sandwich is widely seen as an American evolution. Despite the deep cultural ties, Tom’s visible disbelief stems from the literal names of the foods contradicting the interviewer’s claims of American origin.
This isn’t the first time Tom has been vocal about his food preferences, as he has frequently participated in “Snack Wars” segments where he overwhelmingly prefers British staples like sausage rolls and Scotch eggs over American processed snacks like Twinkies.
These celebrity food debates continue to fuel a massive interest in culinary history, with social media clips like this one garnering millions of views for their relatability and “cringe” factor. Statistics show that modern audiences are increasingly drawn to these unscripted, human moments where celebrities drop their “PR filter” to react to genuine confusion in real-time.
Whether he’s correcting a burger’s birthplace or staring in silent judgment at the mention of fries, Tom Holland has proven that sometimes the best response to a bad take is simply letting the silence speak for itself.
Is Tom being a total food snob here or is he just the only one in the room who knows where his lunch actually came from? 🍟

Don't joke with me
French fries is from belgium
America is a whole bunch of different cultures when everyone came here
Bro forgot about medium rare steak
every American food is imported from around the world there is no American food none what soever, even the bread was imported to America, yes we have to many stupid people , once i was in restaurant some ideate walked in and asked if they serve(American food like Chinese) exact word. like your his answer also said your reply to him,
No Hamburger has nothing to do with Hamburg 😂😅
Nah I’m pretty sure French fries is American…. We named it French fries because we were trying to show the French potatoes are good and shouldn’t be banned (might’ve been Ben Franklin do not quote me on any of this) so he made a new dish and showed it to them and tricked them that it was a potato and they unbanned potatoes. If this didn’t make sense or is completely wrong I’m rly high rn so 🤷♀️ also Tom holland pmos.
Everybody talks about where it came from but nobody talks about who does it best. That's because they all know the answer is America.
Nah, if Tom were smart, he'd acknowledge that although those foods originated somewhere else, the way America makes them is obviously different. Like, a pizza from America would be a calorie bomb in Italy. Most countries don't have a deep fried option of unhealthy foods, and even some of the chemicals they put in our food are banned in most countries. Acting like it's the same is probably offensive to both countries involved.
Hamburg steaks and American hamburgers/cheeseburgers are nowhere near the same thing. The only similarity is that they both include a ground meat patty which I'm sure literally every culture has some variation of, what makes one American or German or whatever is how it's prepared
Southern BBQ, seafood boils, grits, Mac and cheese
Hamburger is NOT made in Germany they made the hamburg steak not the hamburger we all knowz
Does Germany and France have a culture built on hamburger and fries
How many burger joints do they have in comparison? Sorry dude…hamburger and fries are as Americana as it gets
Hamburger the ground meat is german but hamburger the patty between 2 buns is american
The “originally from” argument doesn’t make sense to me. It’s 2026, hamburgers are American
Let’s be real if you’re gonna eat a hamburger with no bread, tomato, onion, pickle, sauce. Then it’s from Germany
LOL
British thinking hamburgers is from hamburg lmao classic.
