Slept great at our hostal in Pamplona, went out early and we got a gourmet breakfast with our new British bestie, Mandy. I got a milkshake and a delicious tapa. We packed up and left Pamplona, walking our way through the town we stopped at a gear store and Mom bought some trekking poles. We worked our way through town and soon left the city, back into fields and farmlands! We slowly ascended up through some beautiful hillsides, ruins in the distance, and arrived to the first town of Zariquiegui. Stopped for some water and mom got a cafe descafeinado! Flew the drone around and got some cool shots of the surrounding areas. The next section was the crux of the day, ascending up to the Mount of Forgiveness. There were some monuments remembering those who had passed before and honoring those who were killed in massacres throughout history here. It was windy, but so beautiful. My mom and I were so distracted from hiking because of the delicious blackberries, they were everywhere along the trail. So delicious! We were full on berries, also saw a couple of really cool green lizards. In the midst, mom dropped her glasses and luckily we only went back a 5-10 minute run and found them deep into the berries where she had been foraging! Once we summitted, the long descent came. I was nervous for Mom’s knees but she kicked butt and made it with ease! We arrived into a ghost town of a city because of the siesta but looked like a small farming community, then the next town had their annual parade and festival going on, they actually had a mini running of the bulls. We finally made it into Puente La Reina and grabbed all of our groceries for the night, fresh bread, salami, and cheese. I tried a cheese flavored gelato and it was interesting but delicious. We got up to the albergue which was all the way across town and up one more hill that was struggle. It was almost like a separated camp from the rest of town, and a big warehouse look. There was a pool which the Slovakian guy said was f’ing cold, but I had to jump in. Mom dipped her knees it was very refreshing. Had a quick picnic and then went into the shower, wash clothes, unpack routine. We got a private room but it was really just a huge garage bay with little plywood walls put up around our beds. Slept amazing! Another great day on the camino!
