Serving up authentic Filipino dishes on the Castlereagh Rd in Belfast, Platito by Mangan is a terrific little café. To start, we ordered Fresh Lumpia, a pancake stuffed with stir-fried vegetables, followed by some Grilled Tofu marinated in soy & garlic. We also had the rich Buttered Garlic Prawns, accompanied by Stir Fried Rice with seafood. And check out the desserts; we ordered the Turon-golden, deep fried plantain with ice cream & caramel, & a marshmallowy Ube de Mercedes.

Stacked has a terrific reputation for gourmet style sandwiches, soups, salads, & breakfasts. There are also some quirky canned drinks; we had the Banana & Strawberry Protein Drink, the Hazelnut & Kinder Iced Latte, & the Raspberry, White Chocolate, & Coconut Matcha! Our lunch included the towering Chicken Zinger Burger, a Tuna & Cheese Melt Toasted Wrap, Cheesy Peppered Chips, Vanilla French Brioche Toast, & the Homemade Chorizo Hash Browns with poached eggs.

Blackfire Food, the brainchild of the wonderfully moustachioed Tim McCarthy, is one of our go-to producers of condiments, chilli oils, & spiced seasonings. Our current fave, Blackfire’s Habanero Hot Honey has a hint of heat and is perfect drizzled on pizza, as a glaze on grilled halloumi, to pep up roasted veg, or even in a hot Margarita!
