How to use French Press. Coffee could be way better if brewed correctly. The recipe was developed using Light roast specialty coffee. But will work with Medium and Dark roast as well.
The biggest mistakes are: incorrect grind size and water temperature.
The grind size must be smaller than sugar to the touch. To get a proper richness and intensity. Which is around 500 microns. Or smaller than pour over grind size.
Water temperature is different for different size and material of the pot.
Turned out, ceramic works best with boiling water. Because in 30 seconds water temperature drops to around 86°C.
While Glass / double glass needs to use 96°C and not 100°C to have the same brewing temperature.
Bigger pots (1 L) require even lower water temperature, around 94°C. And the lowest temperature needed for a Stainless Steel French Press. Around 92°C.
Though it’s just the reference point. Since on different elevation boiling temperature is different. And measurements were done in a room with 13-16°C. Pay attention to flavor. If it is not rich and acidic – decrease the temperature next time.
