  1. That was a great food tour with an interesting mix of types of foods and venues…really got a feel for the street scene. I remember having Calvados in Normandie where they served it as a wee break mid-meal as a disgestive: le trou normand. Another wonderful video-the production quality on these always blows me away!

  2. Since Napoli is so well known for the rum baba pastry, I always assumed it was created there. However, as you indicated, the dessert's origins trace back to an eastern European babka (yeast cake) that was brought to France in the 18th century by the exiled Polish King Stanislaus Leszczynski. A dried-out version was reportedly moistened with a wine syrup, which led to the creation of the modern rum baba. A French pastry chef named Nicolas Stohrer, who worked for the King's daughter, refined the recipe in Paris by using rum and eventually opened the famous Stohrer Pâtisserie in 1730, which still sells rum babas today. The recipe later traveled to Southern Italy, becoming a beloved staple of Neapolitan cuisine. Paris is a beautiful city with a lot of great food. Thanks for showing us why that is!

  3. Bonjour Laura and Horia, this was a perfect food tour, and I didn't gain a pound. Lots of great choices and recommendations. Merci. Love from N.Y.
