We challenged chefs of three different skill levels – an amateur, a home cook, and a professional – to make us some hot dogs. After each of them had offered up their creation, we asked a food scientist to review their work. Which one looks like the most fun on a bun?

  1. Me: set up Weber Go Anywhere charcoal grill with lump coal and either pecan or cherry smoking wood on one side (two zone cooking)

    Keep the dogs on the indirect heat until they start to sweat, then move them directly over the coals to sear them

    Put them in a toasted New England style (top split) bun with pickle relish and spicy brown mustard.

  2. The Epicurious guy is a fool. Newsflash, Frank, when I want hot dog, chilling them overnight is not an option. They are meant to be an easy, quick meal for those of us who have an limited budget. You never fail to make something that an everyday Joe could never afford to make.

    Just effing stop it, Frank.

  3. sandwich
    noun
    sand·wich ˈsan(d)-ˌwich
    ˈsam-;

    : two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between

    Yes a hot dog is a sandwich no matter if you like it or not.

  4. Ok, a bratwurst is not a hot dog and whatever "lamb" hot dog that dude was making? I wanted to like this series but it is so stupid.

  5. BRATS ARE NOT HOT DOGS! 🤢 Give me an Oscar Meyer weenie and a plain bun! A little relish and onions .. nothing else.

  6. Sorry, but you can't boil hotdogs… It's illegal in my house. They are grilled, pan fried or microwaved.

  7. hello i am five years late to point out that the food scientist said that emily made a pork hot dog, which is quite funny, as those are clearly hebrew national hot dogs, and thus antithetical to the very idea of a pork product
