Its better to slice down the whole onion while its standing up. Dont go all the way through. Then cut the center all the way in half. This gives you the same cuts as slicing it at towards your hand flat.
What really matters here is that the onion is cut.
That's how I was taught, I didn't even realize there was a more complicated/less safe way out there😂
Oh snap i never even thought to do this
You go to school to cut an onion?
So happy that you talk about it! This is how I cut it all the time and I think this is the best way to cut onions, too!
Naaa
They also teach you how to steel a knife toward your hand. I don’t do that either.
Or you could first chop in arcs with the grain and then just dice, no up and over that's unnecessarily complicated
The cuts are pointless the onion is already in layers in that direction
Oignons are naturally layered… So do it the way you were taught but skip the cross cut. Same results
That's literally what I did all this time
This is how every prep cook on earth does it exceptvwe gocall the way through… it aint rocket science
Thanks. Chef!!
This just changed my life…
That's how I cut carrots, cucumbers, zucchini and the like. But why did I never think about cutting onions like this before? ^^"
I am no chef or line cook, just doing it privately. But I cut onions in half first, then almost in half again by laying it on its thin side, so I don't have to cut towards me. Finally I continue like in the first example.
Though this method is even better!
Oh boy. There's someone who works in Fallow who would, by his own insistence, become physically ill at this. And probably want to declare war on your descendants or something.😂
That’s the thickest diced onion I’ve ever seen
🤦♂️
You're still cutting towards yourself. Just now in a more intricate manner.
Ah. See what I usually do is, cut the onion in half, then hack at it like I'm on an expedition for the lost city of Eldorado and need to get through a 30 mile thicket of brush before the sun goes down or I'll be gutted by the locals.
It literally doesn’t matter either way
When did Mr Clean become a Chef?
I do it the opposite way he does.
I learned to dice onions with basically no external help and i cut it almost exactly the way he did it. Cutting horizontally just seems like, really dumb and unnecessarily difficult imo.
1/3rd of the time and 2x the thickness
No.
Why do people feel the need to reinvent the wheel?
If you want to dice an onion really fast, slit it into thirds, spatch them flat and whack em through a 3/8 fry grid. Rock your hand over them to spatch them.
