  1. Fish and chips in the southern United States are going to be at Long John Silver type places or it's going to be fried catfish.

  2. Where? Either the Anstruther Fish Bar in Fife or Frankie's in the Shetland Islands… Generally, you tend to find the best at the seaside where they can point to the exact fishing boat that landed what they're cooking

  3. Vancouver, CA has some awesome Fish & Chips shops and restaurants. I've only been to Pajo's there, but there are a ton of choices if you're ever visiting. 😊

  4. North Sea Fish bar, just up the road from Kings cross and directly opposite the bookshop Black Books was filmed in.

Genuinely the best fish and chips in the area.

  5. Mayfair Chippy is top tier! When in Camden, it's got to be Poppies but when I'm feeling basic, Harry Ramsdens 😂. Churchill's in Uxbridge is also fantastic.

  6. The best fish and chips i ever had wasn't in the UK. Aussies just know how to tackle fish better in my experience. Not sure if its the diversity of whats on offer but i will die on my hill that cod isn't the best fish for Fish and Chips.

  7. Never found a fish and chip shop that didn't serve soggy chips that had been lying on a pile for at least 10 minutes.

  8. Here in landlocked Colorado, while you guys complain about pub fish and chips, I would kill every one of you for it! 😅 We used to have a local chippy run by a UK ex pat, but he tried too hard to be trendy with the menu and it failed. Just give me proper traditional fare and I'm good.

  9. It's the same thing in the US some bars are fantastic to drink at but crap at food, most decent at both, and some are just good restaurants that happen to be open late and serve alcohol

  10. Now that's a London take. I live in a fishing town. You're more bothered about whether it's cod or haddock and the price rather than how good it is. It's a given that it's fresh.

  11. Barry stats, bought to you by Barry, are a complete nonsense imo…fish & chips are bad 9 times out of 10 at pubs?? 😂

I’m glad I don’t eat in the pubs he eats at…put it that way 🤷🏻‍♂️

  12. When I lived in London in the early 2000s, I would say the fish and chips in virtually all places were poor. Very few of them used fresh fish. Oddly, the best fish and chips I found were in a wee place near a supermarket in Basingstoke (lovely fresh fish – and I think they had haddock as well as cod).

I grew up in NE Scotland and if a chipper wasn't getting their fish fresh daily, you just didn't get fish and chips there. Hopefully, that's now changed.

  13. Nowhere. Almost all fried foods I have eaten were poorly produced, therefore I never order fried things—from childhood. The last time I ordered Fish & Chips, I was 8. I am now over 50.

  14. the amount of times i have been disappointed with damp and flat batter from fish and chip shop outnumbers my negative experiences with pubs

  15. The fish and chips experience seems to change depending on how it's wrapped. Some places put it in a cardboard box and it ends up soggy loosing all crunch.

  16. It’s a very southern statement that, midlands/north has way better pubs in experience with hella good fish and chips

  17. Barry has some strong opinions about fish 'n' chips. I still remember his crash out in the pass it on
