This is the story of two people who had a dream to move to France to retire— and did all the right things, planned every detail and made it happen. The video was created for our appearance at Adrian Leeds Group’s recent bi-monthly Apres-Midi Expat gathering, here in Nice, France on July 24, 2025.

Hi! We are An and Jeff Scott, two happily retired septuagenarians from the USA, who had a dream. That dream was to retire in France. So, we sold most of our “stuff”, packed and shipped the rest, and with our bossy little Yorkie, Bella, said “goodbye” to the USA. In 2024, we moved from the sunny coast of southwest Florida to the sunny coast of the south of France, to enjoy our “golden years” and embrace the “joie de vivre” available to us, here in beautiful Nice, France.

Moving from the USA to a foreign country was no small “project”. Through our videos, we’ve been taking you through the Long Stay Visa process, the packing, the purging, the moving, searching for an apartment, creating a great Dossier, learning the way things are done administratively in France, and sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs.

And now, we continue to share our life, our new life, here in Nice, getting settled, adjusting to the “French” way of doing things, dealing with the French “red tape”, reveling in the beauty of the world around us…and all the while, making every wonderful day in Nice, the best day ever…

  1. If you feel comfortable saying, & I will understand if you don’t, how much is a 2 BR apt w/a terrace in a beautiful neighborhood in Nice per month? I’ve been looking at condos to buy & the Nice market seems expensive. We are also looking at Toulon because it is very close to my husband’s sister.

  2. Loved this video – so helpful! Can you share with me what neighborhood your apartment is in? I know there are many different areas to select from.

  3. LOVE YOUR IDEAS AND PLANTS TOO!!!!
SENDING LOVE AND PETS TO BELLA!!!!
MAY GOD ALWAYS BLESS YOU ALL!!!!

  4. This video is so lovely. Especially as someone who has watched it all and agonized over the sho and clothes choices, and then got inspired to curate my closet in preparation for our move. So inspiring. The apartment looks so chic!!!

  5. 🇫🇷🌹Your videos are a masterpiece of how to successfully move to France. You cover every aspect including the emotions, the hopes and dreams and the practical. I am so grateful to you as you have helped me plan my move to France. ❤🌹

  6. An, I am so glad you made this video. I knew you’re a great cook from previous videos, but WOW! What an amazing history you’ve had. You inspire me! I’ve messaged you before about me taking care of my Mom full-time with Alzheimer’s too. For various reasons I won’t be able to move for 3 years. My best friend of 48 years may come too. I’ve talked about doing a YouTube channel for years, but don’t know how hard it is. I’m not very computer savvy, other than your basic Microsoft Office applications.

This is one of my very favorites of yours. 😊 I know you’ll keep up the great work. Thank you An & Jeff.

  7. Oh my gosh…thank you, An and Jeff !!! Your dream has so encouraged mine. In the throws of my visa application process and this was just the boost I needed 🙂 oxoxox

  8. How does the summer climate there compare to Naples, FL? It's brutally hot right now here in SWFL. I am not in Naples, but just about 45 min north of it. I hope to travel eventually to Europe. I have a cruise booked for next April to go from Miami to Barcelona. My goal was to explore France, primarily. But I do not want to be in any cold area, since I am a Floridian, but I could tolerate a few cold nights. And I don't speak French.. so that is a BIG drawback for me. I don't know that I can learn it here, since I have not met anyone in this area that speaks French. Spanish is the big 'foreign' language here. Would it be unreasonable to go and just learn it after getting there? I have too many questions, I know.

  9. An and Jeff, thank you for sharing this heartwarming story! As it happens, my DH and I live in the Périgord and love being in the French campagne. We moved here from Florida almost four years ago. All the best to you and Bella!

  10. Thanks for sharing your story and for the apartment tour. You have made a lovely home. Like you I have a longstanding love for Paris but there’s something I just love about Nice. I’m 62 and have a dream of moving there from the UK. It’ll probably never happen but I can still dream!
