With preparations underway to turn it into the world’s largest artificial reef, we went into our archives to look at the many years the historic ocean liner SS United States spent in Norfolk and Newport News, Virginia. Sadly, it was one of false hopes and broken dreams for the ship’s future.

Sinking this beautiful, historic ship with such a proud name SS UNITED STATES is like showing the whole world that the United States of America is going down with this wonderful ship. Sorry, Americans, but I cannot understand that the richest country in the world, which flew into space, which was the first on the moon, which sets directions for the whole world, wants to sink the symbol of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, sink the symbol of the American dream!?? Come to your senses, SAVE THIS SHIP, THIS SYMBOL OF THE POWER OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IT'S NOT TOO LATE YET.🇵🇱🇺🇲
Crazy they wrecked the entire original interior for nothing eventually. Should have been saved in the 80s. But wasn't seen as much of historical importance back then 😢

A history of disappointments never to see fruition as late as 2025!
Gorgeous and resplendent. How a ship bearing the name of the country that created her, the fastest ocean liner ever, is being deliberately sunk instead of being preserved for Americans to appreciate decades ago, represents the sad state of affairs we’ve reached. Madness has become the new normal. Even at this late stage, it still wouldn’t be too late to save her with a few pennies from the billionaires who claim to love America so.
Hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars for foreign wars hundreds of billions to BS causes around the planet yet this iconic symbol and namesake of the United States will be sunk. It would take just a tiny fraction of that money to restore this grand lady. It should be saved and restored as a museum for all to enjoy.
