Love Japan food it's better than California food it's healthy than here it tastes different 😊
A boozy parfait sounds awfully nice 💙
Love the 10 Best format. They will definitely be our guide when we visit Japan. Not a fan of lamb but since you both recommend it, we shall try it.
Sorry but you are mistaken – there are SeicoMarts in the northern suburbs of Tokyo according to GoogleMaps.
The Japanese are in my estimation the most imaginative people on the planet, and the food is a prime example. How much I miss eating in Hokkaido!! But I have to say that I do not enjoy so much eating indoors in modern buildings such as this one. It feels too much like a corporate "Depato" environment. I actually prefer the little open street stalls (like "Itadakimasu" used to be) where you sit on stools elbow to elbow with other ravenous patrons with your back sprinkled with snow or rain and your face & chest baking from the charcoal grills, sipping hot tea or sake and eating Jingiskan, Yakitori, Ramen, Okonomiyaki or Oden. I love the contrast of hot & cold with the amazing deliciousness of the hot foods. The "Fresh from the source today" aspect of Hokkaido food is what makes the cuisine so special. The lamb is farmed 50 miles outside of Sapporo, the fish was caught yesterday or today and the vegetables come straight off the farm to your table. No middlemen. Also, unlike Honshu, Kyushu etc, Sapporo, Otaru & Hakodate have more restaurants per capita that feature NEARLY every form of Japanese, Asian & European food available on the planet with generous sprinklings of Indian, Middle Eastern, American, African, Caribbean, Mexican & South American cuisine as well. The historically basic Hokkaido fare is quite simple featuring dairy, potato, vegetables, lamb/beef/pork/chicken, egg, daikon, corn & lots of fish. "Yosenabe" fish stew is probably the signature dish of the region. Like Hokkaido ramen, it is jam packed with everything but the kitchen sink. In Tokyo and especially Kyoto, classic Kaiseki Riori style appearance is prevalent where appearance & minimalism is key rather than flavor. Hearty intense flavor or large portions packed with many different items is exclusively a Hokkaido thing. Think of Hokkaido as the American West, the frontier of Japan with only a few hundred years of history that was heavily influenced by American & European food culture. Hokkaido was mainly financed by agricultural & fishing industries. These pioneers, farmers and fishermen needed sustenance to survive the 6 month-long winters and all the food reflects that. (btw- in the street-stall version of "Itadakimasu" lamb Jingiskan, the naga-negi (leek) & the lamb chunks are cooked together on the dome-grill where the deeply grilled onions sit in a marinade of lamb fat. At the end of the meal you gather up all the onions & lamb bits, place them in a bowl & then the chef pours steaming oolong tea over it and you eat/drink it as a hot soup that warms you perfectly enough to stand up and bravely head back out into the night & the freezing snow storm and head home.
Love you guys videos. So much love, passion, history and good eats in every video
I happen to be in Sapporo. Gotta be soup curry!
Perfect timing! I'm going to Hokkaido for the 75th Yuki Matsuri, and I've been looking for a lot of information on good things to eat in Hokkaido, Hakodate, Sapporo, etc. I've been dreaming of visiting Hokkaido for many years, and these kinds of videos are a lot of help for me while I make up an itinerary. Thank you for always making such great videos
お疲れ様!
I visited Hokkaido last summer and watched your video on Otaru for food ideas, thank you! I also enjoyed soup curry and genghis khan in Sapporo, and agree that the lamb is not gamey. My fav food was the milk soft cream that we found at Chitose airport! Not a fan of Cremia, since it tastes too cream cheese like for my taste.
So many special foods in Hokkaido that your "10 Must-Eat Foods" list for Sapporo is very helpful! Everything you ate looked delicious. As a vegetarian, my favorites would be the Cremia (I always love a good soft-serve 😋), and the breads. If a vegetarian miso ramen could be found, I know I'd really enjoy that. Love to you both and take good care.❤❤
Sending love Shinichi!
Heading to Sapporo in just over a week, definitely going to hit up some of these! Love your videos.
Hi, greetings from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. The only two foods I know in HOKKAIDO that is popular are : SAPPORO RAMEN and SAPPORO Beer, though I don’t drink beer 🙅🏻♂️
Me and my husband are absolutely in love with sapporo and went there two years in a row. Hokkaido has the tastiest food in japan, everything is just excellent.
10 great foods added to my List.
This is great, I just got to Sapporo today
Just for the bread filled with cream, Saya wants to go to Hokkaido. And the ikura rice snacks. I would definitely try the soup curry and soft serve. And any kind of grilled meat is good. And the parfait!
Hokkaido seems so nice and relaxing. It’s so hard because at best I might be able to suit Japan once in my life and there’s so many places I want to go. Sigh
Shinichi we all stand behind you and wish both of you the very best. I hope you take time for yourself and don’t worry about making videos each day you come first. As a person who suffers with depression myself I can say it is so important to take care of yourself and give yourself the love and time that you need. ❤️❤️
Everything looks amazing. The breads gave me some idea of things to try in my own baking.
For gluten allergy in Hokkaido probably can try Cremia ice cream, Itadakimasu Genghis Khan and the local conbini shops
Perhaps doing these videos helps you get out and about and enjoy everything your beautiful country as to offer, Shinichi. Sending you big hugs from San Francisco.
Guys, I appreciate so much you or anyone who showcases the food and clearly shows the name of the shop or restaurant and the label. So many "travel vlogs" just mumble it, or flash a blurry image for just a microsecond! You're helping this multi-food allergic traveler find edible food and avoid the things that would end my trip in the hospital! I'm Yonsei, and dream of visiting Japan one day and actually having some of the food as part of the experience. Hokkaido is on the list to see!
I would love to travel to Hokkaido someday this year.
I'm curious, what makes Sapporo ramen different and unique compared to other ramens in Japan?
Hey guys I like ramen as my favorite Japanese food but I also love to try other Japanese foods
